Oklahoma PRIDE Training

A Workshop to Spread Good Hospitality Throughout Your Community

Producing Resourceful, Informed, Devoted Employees

Stillwater, OKMain Street

When good hospitality spreads throughout your community, everybody wins! With this workshop, you'll get a package deal--how-to's and materials--so you can give excellent presentations about Oklahoma PRIDE to civic and other groups.

What happens in a PRIDE meeting? The Oklahoma PRIDE program teaches front-line employees quality customer service techniques and helps them learn about highlights and tourist attractions in their area. A guidebook aids local leaders in planning and implementing and Oklahoma PRIDE program. Statewide PRIDE meetings may be offered throughout the year or you may schedule a meeting in your county.

A fee may be charged to cover cost of materials and travel expenses of the training team.

Background The PRIDE Program was developed through a pilot effort in Payne County, which was co-sponsored by the Payne County Economic Development and the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service. The PRIDE Program has been offered to more than 150 "front-line" employees in Payne County. In addition, train-the-trainer sessions have been provided to persons representing over 50 counties in the state.

ORIGINS

Oklahoma Resources Integrated General Information Network System

ORIGINS Internet Training - The Key to Your Information Needs

The purpose of the ORIGINS Training workshop is to become familiar with the World Wide Web and to learn how to utilize ORIGINS data in your economic development efforts. The ORIGINS electronic database is maintained jointly by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, the University of Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State University. It contains various kinds of demographic and economic data for Oklahoma, which may be valuable to community leaders, Chamber of Commerce staff, librarians, bankers, and lawyers. Information that can be found on this web site includes:

 Oklahoma Labor Force data

Bureau of Economic Analysis, Income for States and Counties

U.S. Bureau of the Census, Population, Housing and Poverty data

Sales Subject to Sales Tax for Oklahoma Cities and Counties

Retail Trade for Oklahoma and Oklahoma Cities

 The Oklahoma Statistical Abstract

Recently, ORIGINS Training workshops have placed special emphasis on using the ORIGINS data to perform Gap Analysis, an analysis of a local economy's retail sales and leakage. Gap Analysis utilizes sales tax data to estimate if a local economy is pulling in shoppers from outside the city or if local residents are leaving the city and shopping for retail items elsewhere. The Oklahoma Main Street program recommends that cities perform this type of analysis to determine the gaps in their local market.
